"FURIOUS parents last night accused council bosses of cheating kids out of a playing field - by claiming it as their own."
The PTA of Bodnant Schools has written to Mr. Neil Ayling of Denbighshire County Council Social Services to object in the strongest possible terms to plans for the building of apartments on Bodnant Infants field. Below is a copy of the letter:
I am writing on behalf of Bodnant Infants School PTA to object in the strongest terms to the proposed building of units of accommodation on the playing field opposite Bodnant Infants and adjacent to Llys Nant Residential home.
As a PTA we were appalled to hear that Denbighshire County Council is intending to take away a playing field which has been used by generations of children in Prestatyn, myself included. The children of Bodnant have used this site for decades. Indeed, the PTA has been informed that the School was “gifted” the playing field for the children of Bodnant Infants School by a titled lady in the early 1900s.
As a PTA we profoundly object to any plans that there May be to build on this field, which has been used continuously through the decades by children, not only for events such as sports day and fun days, but also on a daily basis to reduce accident levels on the School playground. The older children are supervised on the field, giving the younger ones greater levels of space to play within the School grounds.
The field is not only used by the children of Bodnant during the day, but also by the children of the wider community, the local Territorial Army, Young Fire-Fighters, to name but a few, after school hours.
We have already contacted our local councillors and intend to contact the local press. We regard any proposal to take away the children’s playing field from this site as utterly appalling.
We look forward to your swift response to the issues raised here.
Yours faithfully,
Maria Smyth-Jones (Mrs.),
Bodnant Infants School PTA.
